Premium materials add warmth and sophistication to a Los Angeles home
Designed by Alexander Liberman of AML Studio and featured on the cover of Architectural Digest, this U-shaped coastal residence reflects a refined synthesis of mid-century modernism and natural textures. Liberman, known for his work on acclaimed California establishments such as Gjelina, Gjusta, and MTN, turned to Provenance to supply the high-quality materials necessary to realize his latest residential vision.
Seeking wood with minimal grain and a sandy, coastal palette, Liberman required long, knot-free Western red cedar to achieve clean lines and seamless transitions. Provenance responded with a carefully selected combination of new and reclaimed cedar, with many boards extending up to 20 feet in length. The material envelopes the exterior of the two-story home and defines a pergola structure that frames the central courtyard. Reclaimed Douglas fir beams were incorporated to emphasize the horizontal continuity of the façade.
Provenance also engineered a custom front door solution to provide privacy and withstand exposure to sun and rain. By developing custom knives in-house, we were able to fabricate the exact profile specified by the architect.
The use of Western red cedar continues indoors, where it warms the ceilings and vanity of the primary bath. A custom louvered wall, fabricated off-site and shipped in a modular kit, adds architectural texture while allowing filtered light to pass through. Wide plank live sawn white oak flooring was selected for its durability and organic appearance, aligning with the home’s emphasis on natural materials and indoor-outdoor continuity.
This project reflects a shared dedication to craftsmanship, precision, and material integrity—hallmarks of both AML Studio and Provenance.
