“Provenance was an easy choice for our flooring needs at the first Lokal location. We have a commitment to utilize local businesses as much as possible, and Provenance could not be more local to Philly's urban development” Chad Ludeman, Lokal Hotel co-founder
Nationally acclaimed design duo Jersey Ice Cream Company created a home-like haven within Lokal Hotel, propping hand-painted portraits on countertops and piling beds high with down comforters. Each of the six suites is named after a famous Philadelphian (think Betsy Ross and Ben Franklin) and is available for short and long term stays.
Many of the exterior and interior details were left untouched in the registered historic building and Provenance’s materials seamlessly merge with these remnants of the past. White oak flooring snakes up the entryway and through the apartment-style units. In fact, it’s the first thing visitors see as they scale the narrow stairwell.
Processed with a live sawn technique, the planks were milled in the same fashion as flooring a 100 years ago, making it a natural fit for the centuries-old structure. Oak’s durable enough to stand up to many a visitor’s footsteps and its understated grain pattern lends a subdued backdrop to the space. The same wood was turned into benches where guests can rest their feet after a day of sightseeing. The designers also used Provenance’s windows from a Glenside, P.A. factory as interior partitions; each pebbled chicken wire glass pane allows a diffused glow to stream into the guest rooms.
The Provenance team lent their expertise in a completely different realm by contributing to the in-room guides. Stay Lokal co-founder Chad Ludeman asked the city’s tastemakers to weigh in on their favorite spots around town and compiled the recommendations into books filled with concierge-worthy picks. This collection of insider info is all the more valuable since Lokal takes an invisible approach to service. That means there’s no front desk staff in sight, encouraging visitors to form their own connection to the city. Provenance chimed in with an itinerary that takes one strolling through quaint streets, cluing them in on the history of the cobblestones, secret parks, and overlooked landmarks they’ll stumble on along the way.
