The Holophane Company was founded in London in the 1800s and quickly expanded to France and the United States. Holophane shades are known for their sparkling, luminous appearance. Each one is made from highly engineered ribbed prismatic glass that refracts and reflects the light. This was especially useful during the gas light era when bulbs were dim.
