This home represents Provenance’s full capabilities in both reclamation and fabrication. The residence is located in the former rectory of the First African Baptist Church, one of the longest-running African American places of worship in the country. In addition to salvaging items from the historic site, Provenance also milled custom flooring and stair treads. Months before construction began, Provenance was called in to salvage lighting from the church’s sanctuary. A monumental chandelier by American Reflector was lowered down from the soaring ceiling and brass sconces originally fitted for gas were removed from the walls.

The rectory was then transformed into an ultra-modern space equipped with amenities for the sophisticated city dweller. Provenance’s live sawn white oak flooring covers much of the 5,000-square-foot home and provides a muted background for the decor. Our three-inch reclaimed oak stair treads wind from the basement to the rooftop deck, creating a striking architectural element that unites the space. Scale the steps and you’re treated to an impressive view of the skyline. Ipe, a tropical hardwood, was chosen for decking because of its density and durability. The final result is a sleek minimalist space warmed with rich tones of wood.
