Touches of reclaimed wood on the exterior set the tone for what’s inside. A jatoba trellis sweeps across the facade and ipe clads the porch overhang. The materials were salvaged from a portion of the New York City boardwalk that stretched from Coney Island to Far Rockaway. Both jatoba and ipe are ideal for outdoor use because of their rot-resistant qualities. They also fade to heathered greys soon after installation.

The home’s most dramatic feature is the vaulted ceiling in the main living space. To achieve the client’s desired look, Provenance fabricated faux beams from old face pine boards that stretched out to 20 feet. With our precision milling techniques, no one would ever suspect that they aren’t solid wood. Hand-hewn beams flank the staircase and also serve as mantles. The theme continues in the kitchen with an island covered in grey oak; Provenance expertly milled the siding to custom specifications for the builder’s cabinetmaker. To offer privacy and hush the noise of a full house, white pine barn doors cordon off the guest suites. It all makes for an elegant, elevated take on beachside living.
