back arrowOswald Cabinet

  • With its jumble of tiny compartments, the Oswald hardware cabinet may be the quirkiest item in our inventory. Everything from wheels and cork to doorstops and hog rings are tacked to the front, proving that it was packed with essentials for home and garden. But don’t let its whimsical appearance fool you – those drawers are lined in sturdy metal and have handles that’ll last for years to come. Another cool touch? The yardstick affixed to the countertop at the ready for measuring twine and chain, of course.

Provenance acquired this vintage piece from Meeker’s Hardware, a family-owned shop in Danbury Connecticut. Located in a Classic Revival building just outside the city’s Main Street Historic District, it was known for its impressive inventory of tools, gardening supplies, and feed. The store opened in 1885 and was later added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
